Who Am I?

Hey it’s Isaiah here, thanks for stopping by to find out a little more about me.

I am a Firefighter Paramedic with specialties in Technical Rope Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue and Helicopter Rescues. I am certified in Wildland Firefighting as well and have the opportunity to travel all across the country fighting wildland fires. I prefer structural firefighting though so I rarely volunteer for deployments in the wildland arena.

I have a ton of interests, but I’m limited by time and money, who isn’t right? I have been around the car racing scene for several years working on a Fire/Safety team. I started with NASCAR. Networking at the track lead me to a Fire/Safety team that has a contract with Redbull to do their Global Rallycross Circuit. That was by far my favorite job, other than what I do now. I also did Fire/Safety for NASA Racing for several years. Being around all that power made me want to “track” one of my cars. That’s basically upgrading everything you can afford to upgrade on the car so it will handle the harsh driving of racing. Well I got married, had two kids and started my fire career, so needless to say, all that dangerous racing stuff got pushed aside for family life. I hope to one day get back into racing, but this time around as a driver!

My current hobby’s have been whittled down to side-by-side riding. I have a CAN-AM and lots of trails close, but Glamis is where all the cool kids go to ride I recently found out. I also love music and am a drummer. I listen to all kinds of music, but prefer to play blues. I like doing things with my hands and as a result of that, I have a ton of projects. I wish I could say my wife gave me a huge honey-do-list, but the reality is that I’ve made my own list and my wife tries to get me to pay someone else to do all the stuff so I have more free time. I’m currently remodeling our master bathroom and a half bath. The half bath was out of necessity, while the master bath was just because I thought it would be fun. I also have an old car I’m about to start working on, but I promised I would at least finish one of the two bathrooms first. Then there’s raised bed planter boxes waiting for me to make and a garden wall! I got the idea of a garden wall from my trip to Brooklyn, NY a few years back. Basically it’s just like it sounds. The plants will be vertically spaced to cover the side wall of our garage. This is a natural insulator for the garage and looks pretty cool. It also eliminated bending over to get the weeds out from around the plants and it makes harvesting a heck of a lot easier.

I realize all of those projects won’t happen this year, but my goal is to have them completed by the spring of 2024. I am also going through a promotional test in a few months that is only offered once every three years, so I have already started studying for that. Follow my other posts for more on my professional development. I will be talking about how I got into the Fire service and suggestions for others that might be interested in joining as well.
